About The Bay Lights

Originally debuting in 2013, The Bay Lights featured thousands of LED lights installed along the Bay Bridge’s vertical cables. Designed by Leo Villareal, the installation showcases ever changing, algorithm driven patterns that shimmer and move across the span each night.

After a decade of nightly illumination, the original installation concluded in 2023. Following an extensive $11 million restoration, the reimagined Bay Lights will make their highly anticipated return on March 20, 2026. The new installation features 48,000 custom LEDs engineered to withstand coastal conditions, ensuring vibrant displays from dusk until dawn for years to come.
