San Francisco Pride Celebration and Parade

Every June, San Francisco hosts America’s single biggest Gay Pride parade and festival. Started in 1972, the parade features hundreds of contingents from dozens of organizations and lasts for nearly three and a half hours, with the grand marshals, individuals and organizations honored for their work in furthering community causes, as the highlight of the event. The two-day festival features booths, dance stages and vendors, all celebrating LGBT culture, and some of the world’s most famous musicians have played there.

Experience this classic and ever-growing event for yourself June 29-30. See an amazing variety of costumes and people of all kinds celebrating the same thing, pride. Drink, eat some delicious street food, and then dance away. Shop for a variety of trinkets you’ll never find elsewhere. On top of it all, the entire event is completely free to attend, and there are no barriers separating it from the rest of the city. The parade starts Saturday at 10:30 and runs down Market Street, from Beale to 8th, and the festival takes place at the civic center.

The 59th Annual North Beach Festival

One of America’s first outdoor festivals, the San Francisco’s North Beach Festival is in its 59th year. It takes place in the historic North Beach neighborhood, which is home to the city’s Little Italy, as well as near lots of other ethnic neighborhoods. The neighborhood is over a century old and connected to the infamous Barbary Coast. This classic festival combined with historic surroundings makes for an absolutely unforgettable experience!

Listen to live music performances as you eat delicious food and browse a variety of shopping and art booths. You’ll see lots of people painting in the street, and kids can get a taste of the experience at chalk art areas. Freebies like yogurt and hummus are another special treat. There are lots of dogs and even an animal blessing at the National Shrine of Saint Francis of Assisi! The festival takes place from 10am-6pm June 15-16, and admission is completely free. Parking can be challenging on nearby streets, but you can get there on the BART by exiting on the Montgomery Street Station or enjoy a walk to the festival from the Hotel Griffon!

America’s Cup Summer Concert Series

The America’s Cup is a prestigious sailing tradition, and for the first time in nearly two decades, San Francisco will host the tournament. With it, some of music’s biggest names will gather in the city for an unforgettable America’s Cup Concert Series at the brand-new Cup Pavilion, a uniquely spectacular outdoor waterfront venue. Whether you’re here for the tournament or not, the music is not to be missed! Performances range from classical to classic rock, from singer songwriter to comedy, and everything in between.

Spend a beautiful bay-side evening listening to superstars and musical legends as boats pass through the background. Battle of the Bay: Giants vs. As

There’s just something about baseball on a warm summer afternoon and all the more exciting when it’s a classic rivalry. The Battle of the Bay is one such rivalry, though a friendlier one than most. The San Francisco Giants have been battling the Oakland Athletics for over two decades, and the matching has been amazingly even, with the As having won 48 games to the Giants’ 47, though the Giants are the current World Series champions.

From May 27-30, watch the next installments of the Bay Bridge Series. Right now, both historic teams are at the top of their leagues, and each has defeated the other at least once this year. The first two games take place at the O.co Coliseum, home of the As, and the last two will be held at AT&T Park, home of the Giants. Tickets at O.co range from $15 to $96, and tickets at AT&T Park range from $25 to $250. BART, the Bay Area’s public transportation system, runs to both stadiums or you can walk to AT&T from the Hotel Griffon! Celebrate this Memorial Day with food, fun, dancing, and more in San Francisco. On Saturday, May 25th, make your way down to the Mission District for the 35th annual Carnaval San Francisco. The free, two-day event begins at 10 a.m. Prepare to be dazzled by this year’s theme, Carnaval Harlem Shake, which will showcase the best Latin American and Caribbean traditions.

On Sunday, May 26th, board the Cabernet Sauvignon Yacht at San Francisco Pier 40 for a day of fun in the sun. Uncorked! San Francisco Wine Festival

Uncorked! San Francisco Wine Festival has attracted wine enthusiasts from near and far since its beginnings in 2006. More than 7,500 people flock to the city for an afternoon of wine, food, and seminars. Ghirardelli Square, where the event takes place, is home to some of the city’s finest specialty shops.

On Saturday, May 18th,make your way to this five-hour event, starting at 1 p.m. Close to 50 wineries and more than a dozen food vendors from throughout northern California provide plenty of options for you and your friends to explore, sample, and taste. Local gourmet chefs will provide cooking demonstrations and wine education seminars — and, of course, let’s not forget the live music!

Hello fellow travelers! For those of you who don’t know me, I am the Griffon. I reside at the Hotel Griffon, a boutique hotel in San Francisco located along the Embarcadero waterfront. You’ve probably seen me in the back corner of the lobby by the elevator (I’m pretty hard to miss). Until recently, I didn’t leave the Hotel Griffon much. I mean, if you ask most people they wouldn’t blame me… With gorgeous views of the Embarcadero, the Bay Bridge, and Perry’s Restaurant and Bar all right here, why would I? However, after hearing so many guests having conversations about how great San Francisco is, I decided that I must expand my horizons and go out to explore the rest of this beautiful city by the bay!

To document my day out, I’m going to start writing blog posts on the Hotel Griffon blog ( http://www.hotelgriffon.com/blog/ ) as well as post on the Hotel Griffon Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/hotelgriffon ). Port of San Francisco 150th Anniversary

Celebrating a century and a half of the Bay Area’s waterfront heritage and maritime history, the Port of San Francisco 150th Anniversary is an exciting series of family events. Featuring the opening of the Exploratorium and the popular Maritime Day festival on the San Francisco waterfront, this event honors the Port of San Francisco, which opened when Abraham Lincoln was in office, way back in 1863. The anniversary party kicks off with the opening of the Exploratorium’s huge new campus and new exhibitions on Pier 15 on Wednesday, April 17; then on Wednesday, April 24, there will be a big birthday bash and media event at Pier 39. Rock ‘n Roll Marathon

For music lovers and marathon enthusiasts, there is no better event than San Francisco’s Rock 'N'Roll Half Marathon. A series of marathon races with stops around the United States and the world, this fun touring event features loud rock and roll music blasted along the course, jamming tunes to inspire the runners - from heavy metal and classic rock to indie favorites and arena anthems. The marathon series comes to the Bay Area on April 7 and always attracts a fun, young crowd of runners and spectators. SF Beer Week

Clean The World

Our green San Francisco hotel is proud to be part of the incredible Clean the World foundation that helps people in need from around the globe. We have joined forces with the non-profit Clean the World program that has given our hotel an opportunity to share extra hotel products with kids and adults of all ages who need basic sanitized supplies and do not normally have access to them. In 2012 we were able to donate over 1,300 pounds of San Francisco green hotel goods including 635 pounds of soap and 665 pounds of bottled amenities. Our recycled soaps have been distributed across the world to help children and families in need, so we can make a difference in our global community.

Celebrate the 75th anniversary of San Francisco’s iconic Bay Bridge with the Bay Lights art light sculpture beginning in March 2013. This monumental art installation, designed by world-renowned artist Leo Villareal, will feature more than 25,000 white LED lights that will cover the West Span of the Bay Bridge in a spectacular display that is 1.8 miles wide and 500 feet high. Believed to be the world’s largest LED light sculpture, the Bay Lights energy efficient, individually programmable lights will cover the Bay Bridge’s vertical cables to create a display that offers unique patterns of light across the entire western span. The Bay Lights will be on display from dusk until 2am daily beginning in March 2013, and will viewable from the city of San Francisco and points north. The Bay Lights will run from March 2013 through March 2015.

The Nike Women’s Marathon and Half Marathon returns to San Francisco for the 9th year, with organizers expecting record numbers. The race takes place on October 14th, 2012 and benefits The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in San Francisco (LLS). This SF marathon has become one of the biggest of its kind, having attracted over 120,000 runners while raising more than $118 million to fund cancer research and treatment since its inaugural event in 2004.
