San Francisco’s 18th Annual Ghirardelli Chocolate Festival is heading near the waterfront for another exciting celebration of the humble cocoa bean. This two-day event takes place this year on September 14 and 15, and features a huge array of family-friendly fun, local vendors and chocolate-related activities. One of the city’s top tourist attractions, Ghirardelli Square is the place to go for massive hot fudge sundaes, gourmet desserts and unbeatable ice cream sweets. This chocolate company and ice cream parlor hosts a giant chocolate festival every fall, a tasty celebration that speaks to the deep human need for the products of the cocoa bean: dark, bittersweet, milk, white, hot or cold – whatever your chocolate dreams are made of, you will find it at this sweet and delicious festival
Chocolate Festival Events
Whether you want to taste exotic cocoa concoctions, shop for gourmet gift items, or learn about cocoa bean processing, you can do it at this sweet unique event. Head to the Chocolate and Wine Pavilion (extra ticket required) for gourmet wine and dessert tastings, or sign up for the “Earthquake” Ice Cream Eating Contest and try to chow down on a giant sundae – with your hands. You can also see chef demonstrations at the festival’s two culinary stages, or head to Chocolate School and learn the steps it takes to make a chocolate bean into a bar. There will also be a silent auction to benefit Project Open Hand, with over 20 premium vendors offering exciting prizes and gift items.
The chocolate celebrations are centered at Ghirardelli Square, located in the heart of San Francisco’s historic waterfront. General events are free, and tickets to other festivities can be purchased online in advance in a number of exciting packages. Tickets range in price from $30 for the Chocolate and Wine Pavilion tastings to $125 for a VIP Chocolate Experience.
