Lace Up Your Ice Skates in San Francisco
You know it’s winter in the City by the Bay when the outdoor ice skating rink appears in Embarcadero Center’s Justin Herman Plaza. Although snow is a rarity in the Bay Area, occurring every decade or so, the picturesque ice rink is something you can count on for cold weather fun. You can even skate under the stars-or fog-just across the street from the Ferry Building!
The rink is open every day. Sundays through Thursday, skate from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. If the weather gets bad, the rink will temporarily close, so be sure to check the forecast. Don’t have your own ice skates? Rent them at the rink for $4.
Admission Prices and More at the Embarcadero Center It’s a good idea to show up early or later in the day, because the skating rink is a very popular SF feature, and lines get long during peak hours. A 90-minute skating session is $10 for adults and $6 for children 7 and under. Private parties can be booked in advance, and a birthday party package for up to ten people is $275. Call 415-772-0753 for more information.
While at the Embarcadero, get some holiday shopping done. The Center is home to a wide variety of shops including the Gap, Jest Jewels, and Papyrus. There are also fantastic places to eat, like Fuzio Pasta or Boudin Café. Head to Peet’s or The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf for a hot cup of cocoa or pumpkin latte, post-skating.
